New security operations run smoothly at HKIA
Airport operations and flight schedules ran normally as new security measures limiting the amount of liquids, gels and aerosols that can be carried in passengers' hand baggage were implemented at Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA), airport authorities said. To make sure that things ran smoothly, Airport Authority Hong Kong (AA) deployed over 100 additional airport ambassadors and security staff on March 21, the first day. Re-sealable plastic bags are now available and tables have been set up at each of the check-in aisles at Terminal 1 and Terminal 2. Leaflets are being distributed to passengers and regular announcements are being made at the terminals to remind travelers of the new measures.
AA thanked passengers for their co-operation and understanding as the new rules went into effect. AA General Manager, Terminal, Y. F. Wong, said, "Most passengers arriving at the security check-points have complied with the new security measures. Those who do not must re-pack their luggage or dispose of non-compliant items. We will continue to monitor the situation and liaise with the CAD, airlines and security staff to ensure smooth and efficient airport operations."
