Valencia opens regional terminal

A new terminal building dedicated to regional aviation has now entered service at Valencia Airport, authorities announced earlier this week. Covering approximately 11000 square meters, the facility is connected to the airport’s main terminal, providing easy passenger access between the two facilities. The new building is also connected with a new station on the city’s subway network.

The new terminal building is divided into two sections. One is dedicated to passenger processing and is essentially part of the airport’s main terminal, with ticket counters, corporate offices, security checkpoints – including automated baggage inspection – and space for airport services and vehicles. The other section is a 2400-square-meter airside satellite facility housing ten built-in gates to accommodate arrivals or departures, with additional gates situated remotely.

The opening is part of a major airport expansion being undertaken to meet anticipated increases in passenger traffic and also in preparation for the Port Americas Cup, which begins next week.
