ICAO, ACI team up to launch
airport management program

In what is being described as a first in aviation training, Airports Council International (ACI), the global airport trade association, and the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) have premiered the “Airport Management Professional Accreditation Programme.” The program is offered globally and successful students are awarded the International Airport Professional (IAP) accreditation.

“Today’s airport operators are under pressure to achieve greater efficiencies while ensuring full adherence to the international standards that are the hallmark of commercial aviation,” said ACI director general Robert J Aaronson. “They must deal with a diverse range of business and operational requirements related to capacity constraints, safety, increased security threats, the logistics of new technologies and new airport business models involving investment from the private sector.  This global initiative targets the need for in-depth management expertise in all nations and gives professional recognition to those who succeed in completing the entire programme.”

The diploma programme requires candidates to complete four core courses and two electives within a three-year timeframe. A limited number of fellowships will be made available to candidates from less developed nations. The first courses are set to begin in June, and registration is now open on the dedicated website at www.iap.aero, which features a description of the subjects and application procedures.
