QinetiQ appoints airport technologies director

QinetiQ has appointed Phil McLachlan managing director of QinetiQ Airport Technologies, the QinetiQ business unit that is responsible for the company’s Tarsier runway debris detection system. McLachlan, currently the director of Accenture UK's aerospace and defence (A&D) practice, will take up his new post next month.

McLachlan's initial responsibility in his new post will be the continued growth of QinetiQ's Tarsier business. The Tarsier radar system detects and locates potentially dangerous debris on airport runways. Last year, Vancouver International Airport became the first airport to install and operate a Tarsier system, which is now fully integrated into Vancouver's airside operations, and Dubai International Airport is currently installing one. Further systems are being installed at Heathrow and Providence, Rhode Island, for extended evaluations.

"I am delighted to welcome to QinetiQ someone of Phil's business and technology expertise in the aerospace sector,” said Hal Kruth, managing director of QinetiQ's Security and Dual Use sector. “His experience of starting and growing a business while at Accenture will be invaluable as he develops our airport technologies business, using Tarsier as the bridgehead into the airports and airlines market."
