Hawaiian Airlines named Number One
In the wake of the U.S. Department of Transportation Air Travel Consumer Report, issued February 7, Hawaiian Airlines is basking in its recognition as the number one airline in the U.S. for on-time service and efficiency in baggage handling. The airline also ranked in the top four for fewest oversales and cancellations. This is the fourth year in a row that Hawaiian posted the best on-time results and top overall performance of all carriers ranked, and the second year in a row that it nabbed top honors for baggage handling.
Hawaiian had the best on-time performance rankings for 10 out of 12 months in 2006, with 93.8 percent of its flights arriving on schedule for the entire year. It was also the best U.S. airline in 2006 when it came to baggage handling, with 3.14 mishandled baggage reports for every 1,000 passengers carried. JetBlue Airways was second at 4.09 mishandled baggage reports for every 1,000 passengers.
According to the DOT report, U.S. Airlines logged more than 4 million mishandled bag reports in 2006. This includes luggage that was lost, damaged, or placed on the wrong flight. The overall mishandled bag rate per 1000 passengers was 6.73, a slight increase over 2005.
