IATA issues industry figures for 2006

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) reports that international air passenger traffic rose 5.9 percent over 2006, while the industry’s operating profit soared to US$10.2 billion from US$4.3 billion the previous year. These figures are all the more impressive considering that the rate of growth in passenger volumes actually slowed in 2006, a trend the organization expects to continue this year. Net profit for next year, against a backdrop of cost cutting and efficiency improvements, is predicted to be US$2.5 billion.
