The International Air Transport Association (IATA) reports that international air passenger traffic rose 5.9 percent over 2006, while the industry’s operating profit soared to US$10.2 billion from US$4.3 billion the previous year. These figures are all the more impressive considering that the rate of growth in passenger volumes actually slowed in 2006, a trend the organization expects to continue this year. Net profit for next year, against a backdrop of cost cutting and efficiency improvements, is predicted to be US$2.5 billion. |
