One of the environmentally friendly vehicles OCS operates at Heathrow Airport
OCS wins green award
OCS Transport has won a Gold Award for its operation of environmentally friendly vehicles at its Heathrow Airport operating base. The award is part of the Clean Vehicles Programme developed by Heathrow Airport operator BAA for all companies operating in and around the facility. The program assesses environmental performance against ten steps of environmentally responsible transportation management, ranging from training and awareness to the use of clean fuels and vehicles, as well as commitment to ongoing improvement and percentage of ‘clean’ vehicles in the fleet.
OCS scored especially high on training and awareness and vehicle maintenance (it achieved a perfect 100 percent on the latter index). The company operates a range of services at Heathrow, including aircraft cleaning and provisioning. It has a fleet of specialist vehicles and is now running a trial of electric vehicles. It is also implementing automated systems to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of its operations. The systems, which will include monitoring and managing hours of operation, fuel consumption and other parameters, are expected to be up and running by the end of the year.
The company now intends to go for the “Platinum” accreditation.
