Ben Gurion T1 reopens
On February 20, two years after being closed down, Terminal 1 at Ben Gurion airport in Israel reopened after an extensive renovation. Formerly the airport’s international terminal, the facility will now serve domestic traffic and expects 400,000 passengers in its first year of operation.
The re-opening is the latest step in upgrading at Ben Gurion. Initially, international traffic was moved to Terminal 3 from Terminal 2, which is now to be torn down, after which the space will be used by cargo handler Swissport.
The design of the renewed terminal places special emphasis on accessibility and convenience, for passengers with disabilities as well as the general public. All facilities comply with standards of accessibility for the disabled, and the entire space is on a single level.
