Tocumen International Airport and airline staff retrieved a large amount of potentially dangerous items
Tocumen stages cleanup day
The operators and business partners of Tocumen International Airport in Panama got together to organize a garbage collection day earlier this month. On February 15, airport staff as well as personnel from the airlines operating at the airport scoured aprons and other aircraft movement areas for debris that could cause foreign object damage (F.O.D.).
“This project demonstrates that all of our partners at Tocumen are very aware of the importance of keeping all aircraft movement areas clear of garbage, liquids and any other objects that could damage an aircraft, or pose a danger to operations,” the airport said in announcing the project. “F.O.D. is a huge problem for airports around the world, not only in terms of costly damage to aircraft, motors and so on, but also in terms of delayed flights, missed connections, and passengers not being able to make it to their intended destinations.”
