LAX awards soundproofing contract
The Los Angeles Board of Airport Commissioners has awarded a contract to Professional Building Contractors Inc. for part of the LAX Residential Soundproofing Program. The US$1.3 million contract covers sound insulation modifications on 57 residences, comprising five single-family homes, a nine-unit apartment block and 43 condominium units.
The overall program covers more than 8200 residences in areas of Los Angeles with a recorded noise equivalent level of 65 decibels or higher. Program contractors typically install double-paned windows, solid-core doors, fireplace doors and dampers, attic baffles, insulation and heating-ventilation-air conditioning (HVAC) to reduce interior noise by about a half.
The completion of this contract will bring the total residences covered or underway to 5327. The remainder of the 8200 are in the design phase or awaiting it or else the residents have not responded or have indicated they do not wish to participate.
