ASUR CEO leaves

Kjeld Binger, CEO of Mexican airport operator Grupo Aeroportuario del Sureste (ASUR), has resigned from his position. The move comes as a result of his recent move from Copenhagen Airports A/S, a strategic partner of ASUR, to take a position with another company. Copenhagen Airports A/S is a co-owner of Inversiones y Técnicas Aeroportuarias (ITA), which has supplied technical assistance to ASUR over the past seven years. In turn, ITA owns 15 percent of ASUR.

ASUR’s statement announcing Binger’s departure noted that ITA will continue to provide technical assistance, and that ITA will also provide candidates for the position of ASUR’s CEO. ASUR chairman Fernando Chico Pardo said that ASUR management would assume Binger’s responsibilities until a new CEO can be appointed. “We believe that Mr. Binger’s replacement could be named at the next meeting of ASUR’s Board of Directors on January 19.” Pardo also gave assurances that ITA’s relationship with ASUR would remain unchanged.

ASUR operates nine airports in Mexico, of which the largest by far is Cancun International.
