Telkonet iWire to secure U.S. airports

The U.S. Transportation Security Administration (TSA), together with the U.S. Army Information Systems Engineering Command Technology Integration Center (TIC) has decided to adopt the iWire system from Telkonet for pilot deployment at multiple Category II-IV U.S. airports beginning this month. The enterprise IP-over-powerline system will be used to enable rapid deployment of high-speed network connectivity and other security applications to TSA-owned and operated workspaces at these airports.

The systems will be used to help the TSA improve communications between its field personnel and headquarters, as well as to support passenger and baggage screening staff training and provide a scaleable base for the adoption of future security applications. The pilot installations are the first in a potential 380-airport rollout, for which the TSA is spending a total of US$100 million.
