Air India to set up cargo hub
State-run Air India has announced plans to set up a major cargo handling facility at Bangalore in a joint venture with Singapore Airport Terminal Services. The joint venture will invest INR800 million (US$18.1 million) to construct the facility, which will open in January 2008, with a capacity of 150,000 tonnes of cargo, as well as perishable and specialty cargo including courier and mail deliveries. Air cargo as a category is experiencing very rapid growth in India.
