The consortium of company executives who purchased Eurest Catering Services last fall have purchased Abela Hellas Catering Services S.A. in Greece. Newrest Group says it will cater Aegean Airlines out of Athens, where it also operates a subsidiary, Eurest Inflight Services Hellas SA. “The acquisition is part of Newrest Group’s strategic plan to extend our network and market presence in southern Europe,” said a release from the Toulouse-based company.
In other news from the company, Newrest announced that its subsidiary in Morocco has signed a joint venture for a local company, the Rahal Group, to take a 33 percent stake in the operation and form a company called Newrest Rahal Maroc. The operation in Morocco produces 27,000 meals per day for a variety of airline and non-airline customers and Rahal Group has an 84 percent share of the Moroccan catering market.
Newrest has also announced concessions in Algeria and Montenegro as part of the recent expansions. At Houari Boumedienne airport in Algeria, Newrest has will open a new restaurant called Tanit next month. Tanit will be 542 square meters and features an open kitchen of 130 square meters. It will join six other restaurants that Newrest operates under an eight-year contract.
