Aéroports de Paris launches new people mover at CDG

Aéroports de Paris has inaugurated operation of the new “CDGVAL” people mover at Paris-Charles de Gaulle Airport. The CDGVAL system is an automated, driverless train to facilitate inter-terminal transfers for passengers and some 85,000 airport employees. It links the airport’s three terminals, RER-TGV stations and long-term parking lots. The train covers the 3.5-kilometer (2.2-mile) route in eight minutes, a significant time saving compared to the 25 minutes required to cover the route by bus.

The system operates every four minutes, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The CDGVAL is unique in Europe as it is the only one with a two-way automated pilot, enabling it to run on the same track from one end of the line to the other, a feature that can be helpful when maintenance is required.
